Are you Considering Mission?

The November edition of the Global Connections magazine, Sphere, has a very interesting article about ‘Mission DNA’.

In it, the article gives five suggestions as to how churches can be more strategic in their outlook:

  • Start local (see friendsinternational.org.uk)
  • Build on existing links (see www.mission-net.org/congress)
  • Raise mission awareness (see www.globalconnections.org.uk/clgm or www.gofestival.info)
  • Pray for unreached groups or nations (see www.operationworld.org/free-prayer-enhancing-resources)
  • Support those considering mission (see www.kairoscourse.info)

This last suggestion sits very well with what we do at Links and is about encouraging those who are thinking about cross-cultural mission work, either short-term or long term. One idea is to start a group to bring people together who would like to support one another in the process of considering mission. This can include the more challenging idea of considering supporting unreached areas of the world.

The Kairos course is a fantastic way of broadening people’s perceptions of mission and helping them work out where God might be calling them. Most people who complete this course say that it has had a great impact on their lives.

If you are interested in attending the Kairos course, you might like to know that River Church is running this course in February at The Windsor Hall, Ruddlesway, Windsor SL4 5SJ. It looks at the following components of World Mission – Biblical, Historical, Strategic and Cultural.

It is an intensive course from Tuesday 4th February to Saturday 8th February 2014 (Tuesday – Friday 9.00am – 6.30pm, Saturday 9.00 – 4.00pm with some reading each evening).

The cost is £100, which includes all materials, refreshments and one evening meal.
