The ‘Marriage Encounter’ covers similar topics as is used in the seminars.

Married couples are invited usually for two days to come away from their homes to a guest house, hotel or other facility.

Here they will be away from the toils and worries of everyday life and can concentrate on the marriage and their partner, and what God is saying.

The format of the ‘Encounter’ is for the couples to hear a seminar before going away together to a private place where they can talk together.

To help with this talking they are given questions to answer individually before discussing them with their partner.

Couples will also be given instruction on how to communicate clearly and how we use our words, tone of voice and our body language.

A typical programme for the Marriage Encounter is as follows:

Day 1

  • Introduction
  • Who the teachers are
  • Testimonies of changed marriages
  • Format of ‘Marriage Encounter’ explained
  • Lectures and working together using dialogue
  • A need for honesty, gently expressed without harshness
  • Commitment to God and to our marriage
  • Write down why you came and what you want from the ‘encounter’
  • Prayer
  • The history of a relationship
  • Dialogue: Statement of intent
  • Communication
  • Identity and self image
  • Gender gap
  • Love
  • Conflict
  • Prayer

Day 2

  • Prayer
  • Feedback from Day 1
  • Forgiveness
  • Marriage is for life
  • Being Committed
  • Money
  • Sexual relationship
  • Prayer of commitment and communion
  • Feedback and questions
  • Has the ‘Encounter’ met your expectations
  • Disclaimer and continuance
  • Prayer

The November edition of the Global Connections magazine, Sphere, has a very interesting article about ‘Mission DNA’.

In it, the article gives five suggestions as to how churches can be more strategic in their outlook:

  • Start local (see friendsinternational.org.uk)
  • Build on existing links (see www.mission-net.org/congress)
  • Raise mission awareness (see www.globalconnections.org.uk/clgm or www.gofestival.info)
  • Pray for unreached groups or nations (see www.operationworld.org/free-prayer-enhancing-resources)
  • Support those considering mission (see www.kairoscourse.info)

This last suggestion sits very well with what we do at Links and is about encouraging those who are thinking about cross-cultural mission work, either short-term or long term. One idea is to start a group to bring people together who would like to support one another in the process of considering mission. This can include the more challenging idea of considering supporting unreached areas of the world.

The Kairos course is a fantastic way of broadening people’s perceptions of mission and helping them work out where God might be calling them. Most people who complete this course say that it has had a great impact on their lives.

If you are interested in attending the Kairos course, you might like to know that River Church is running this course in February at The Windsor Hall, Ruddlesway, Windsor SL4 5SJ. It looks at the following components of World Mission – Biblical, Historical, Strategic and Cultural.

It is an intensive course from Tuesday 4th February to Saturday 8th February 2014 (Tuesday – Friday 9.00am – 6.30pm, Saturday 9.00 – 4.00pm with some reading each evening).

The cost is £100, which includes all materials, refreshments and one evening meal.

If you would like more information on Kairos, please click here to go to their website. If you would like to know specifically about River Church’s course, please email diana.chapman@riverchurch.org.uk.

We’ve received some encouraging updates about the work of some of our partners in India. We hope you enjoy reading the stories that some of their friends there have to tell. There are ideas at the bottom of how you can get involved, so if you would like further information, please contact us!

01: Hello I am VG, would like to thank God for bringing  His light into to me and my family. For me Christ was for Christian but gospel was shared to me a such way that I started reading New Testament and now I my family are part of church. Please continue to pray for me and my family.

02: Hi I am AK, following Christ along with my Mom, Dad and brother. Gospel of Jesus has brought light in our lives and such a peace we have that we cannot express this with words. What a joy to know the true and living God. I am part of church.

03: MY… doing my B.Thech. came to know Christ just by hearing  in a very simple way. My  Mom, two elder sisters and  my elder brother all are the followers of Jesus now and part of church.

04: I am BS, I work in Police. Me and my family love the Lord serve the Lord. Two months ago we came to know the Lord when through prayers my wife was delivered from the bondages of  darkness. We are part of church.

05: AY, Christ has made a self image change in my life. Please pray for my family to know Christ too.

Our partners offer the following ways in which you can be part of this community transformation:

01:  By praying for more harvest and harvest force.

02:  By praying for all the trainings of  new believers, church planters and Type I to Type IV leaders trainings and specific people group trainings.

03:  By praying for protection over Church Planters.

04:  By visiting us and encouraging Church Planters.
